I paint exterior and interior spaces inspired by my home and workplace to show the relationship between the two main environments that connect me to my life. My paintings are created from my photographs of these places that hold symbolic meaning and provide a mirror of my life. Specifically, I am recording the places I live in and how I work with my father at his shop. I include everyday objects such as shoes, clothes, photos of loved ones, messy desks, tools, and other objects and activities in the workshop to provide evidence of human interactions within the spaces.
In all my paintings I am exploring color usage including muted palettes to support my intended symbolic content, that is to create a create a mundane environment. I am also very meticulous when it comes to textures, lighting effects, and shadows. I use this process to change photographs into how I visualize scenes of my daily life. Like the importance historical artist Vincent Van Gogh, I am simply examining and painting my everyday life and the places I occupy and work in.
